Aquanex and the UTES of which it is a part adhere to the “Do not feed the sewer monster” campaign to celebrate World Sanitation Day

This is a campaign of the urban water sector promoted by the Spanish Association of Water Supply and Sanitation (AEAS) to raise public awareness about products not suitable for disposal by the toilet.

Aquanex, a company in the environmental sector that manages services linked to the water cycle in Extremadura, and the UTES of which it is part of the World Sanitation Day that is commemorated today by calling attention to the problems generated by wipes and other waste solids that are discarded by the toilet.

To this end, Aquanex has joined the awareness campaign ‘Do not feed the sewer monster’ promoted by the Spanish Association of Water Supply and Sanitation (AEAS) on products not suitable for disposal by the W.C. and to which a hundred companies in the sector have joined.

The objective of this initiative is to avoid environmental and economic damage caused by obstructions and damage to homes, sewage networks, pumping equipment and treatment plants. For this he has counted the collaboration of the municipalities of Don Benito, Villanueva de la Serena, Jerez de los Caballeros, Talarrubias, Coria, Macomunidad de Tentudía ,. Torremayor, Integral Commonwealth Lácara los Baldíos, Castilblanco, Esparragosa de Lares, Higuera de Vargas and Fuente del Maestre. This initiative has also been joined by the UTES of the Water Service of Plasencia and Arroyo de La Luz and their respective municipalities.

The signatories of the Declaration of Adhesion to ‘Do not feed the sewer monster’, among which Aquanex and the UTES of Plasencia and Arroyo de La Luz are, have agreed the following points:

  • They undertake to promote and disseminate this citizen awareness and awareness campaign, each to the extent of their capabilities and possibilities for action.
  • The campaign will affect that only the 3 Ps: pee, poop and toilet paper ─products that comply with the UNE 149002: 2019─ standard, i.e. urine, feces and toilet paper (the 3Ps of English: Pee , Poo and -Toilet-Paper). In that sense, all wipes and personal hygiene products must be clearly labeled and disposed of in the bin or trash. The manufacturers of wipes and personal hygiene products should provide consumers with clear and concise information on disposal methods.
  • They undertake to try to contact organizations in their local sphere of influence to involve them in awareness and awareness actions such as this campaign or others related to this problem.T

AEAS and the signatory entities continue to work actively both in public awareness and in the technical solution of this problem, since throwing wet wipes and other products through our toilets is producing significant negative effects.
